Bliss Yoga was founded by Yogacharya Karen G. Stollmeyer, MA. Bliss Yoga is Integral Hatha Yoga that is taught in the Sivananda/Satyananda tradition, and which is infused with the traditional ancient yoga teachings that have been practiced by yogis and seekers for thousands of years. Karen received her yoga teacher certification from yoga master H.H. Sri Swami Brahmavidyananda Saraswati at the Institute for Holistic Yoga, Satyananda Ashram, in Miami, Florida. Bliss Yoga focuses on the healing of body and mind, and on reconnection to Spirit by blending asanas (physical postures), pranayamas (breathing techniques), mudras, bandhas, relaxation and meditation into each class so that students are progressively led into deeper states of focus, awareness, concentration, and deep relaxation. Bliss Yoga is practiced primarily in a vinyasa style. Vinyasa means “to flow”, and it allows for the linking of postures, so that a cohesive flow of movement combined with stillness is established from beginning to end. Its aim is to have the practitioner experience as much as possible that state of yoga, or absolute union with oneself, in each and every class. Classes are never the same and may range from a strong power-yoga type class, to an invigorating Hatha yoga class, to a slow, introspective and deeply healing class. The emphasis is on understanding the practice of yoga as a means of Self-transformation and Self-realization and how this applies to one’s daily life. Bliss Yoga is a soul-centered practice and seeks to lead one closer and closer to the ultimate reality of our true nature, which is one of love and compassion. This is accomplished by combining the movement of the asanas (yogic postures) with the conscious awareness of the breath, and by using that focused state of awareness to bring about a gradual calming and balancing of both mind and body. Deep guided relaxation, breathing exercises, and basic meditation techniques are included in each class, so that students are guided to experience a state of deep quiet where one can then begin to understand and tap into the vast resources of peace, strength, creativity and love that are present at the core of all human beings. Bliss Yoga is an Honorary Member of the International Yoga Federation (IYF), and Karen is a member of the International Yoga Federation’s World Yoga Council. The International Yoga Federation is the world wide governing body of yoga, which oversees over 300,000,000 members in countries around the world. Bliss Yoga is also dedicated to seva (service), and to promoting the health, wellbeing, and happiness of those in our communities who may be in need, and has organized several fundraisers in aid of local and international charities including Pour L’Innocents, Wildlife Orphanage and Rehabilitation Center (WORC), Mamatoto, TIBS, and the India Relief Fund. |
